It takes a village to care for senior citizens

On March 16, 2014, The Ottawa Sun’s Jessie Archambault wrote an article on a new placement opportunity worth looking into. Below is a brief overview of her article, followed by the contact information.

The Bruyère Village officially opened its new affordable housing retirement complex on Friday in Orléans. Phase 2 of the facility offers units for long-term care, assisted living and independent living for seniors with low income. “It allows people to live independently but with a safety net around them,” said Sandra Graham, chair of the Bruyère Continuing Care board of directors. “It’s not just your one little room where you have a bed and a dresser, and a chair for your relatives,” she said. “You have a whole community here.” Seniors will be able to open their door and mingle with neighbours in one of the lounges or at the on-site pub. The facility also has a computer room, fitness room, arts and crafts, and a game room to name a few. For more information, contact Bruyère Continuing Care, 75 Bruyère Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1N 5C6, (613) 562-6262.
