CTV W5 Report: Crisis in Care

A W5 investigation reveals that residents of long-term care facilities are at risk.
The first part of three on the series titled Crisis in Care was aired on February 9, 2013. In part one, Sandie Rinaldo interviews a family fighting for justice after 68-year-old Frank Piccolo was brutally attacked by a fellow resident in a Toronto long-term care facility. In part two, statistics presented show that it is estimated that there are more than 10,000 resident-on-resident altercations in a year, and there is no apparent justice for helpless victims. Part three of the series addresses the issue of understaffing in long-term care facilities, and Sandie Rinaldo interviews two health care aides who confirm the shortage and that there is no guarantee seniors won’t be harmed while in care.
